I  started my career in retail as the floor manager. It was my job to attract customers as they walked down the aisle and pull them into the department.  To do this I organized the racks of clothing so they would browse from one to the next, staying in the area as long as possible. And, hopefully staying long enough to buy something.

Funny thing, as a web designer that was still my job.  As I evaluate the design of a website I think about how it will pull a reader in and get them to stay. I create plans to connect pages and make offers on individual pages that keep visitors engaged and on the page longer.

You can tell if your web marketing is working when you look at your bounce rate.  Are people coming and going or are they staying, hanging out and trying on a few things? ​
