A few weeks ago, Copyblogger announced they were deleting their Facebook page. On the surface, it seemed crazy for a content marketing/social media firm like Copyblogger to walk away from Facebook, but they did.
In a very public blog post they explained their reasoning for the decision. Their choice is not right for every small business. However, by understanding their decision process and applying some of the same critical analysis we can learn some important lessons.
- Spam followers are worse than no followers.
- The number of fans don’t matter if they aren’t engaged.
- If you aren’t going to pay for advertising, you need to be ready to actively force share your content.
